Have you ever attended a seminar where you’ve walked away a changed person??? This is what Tony Robbins Unleash The Power Within seminar does. It’s blown my world and all for the better. It’s not for the light-hearted, the days are long and the longest goes from 9am – 12am Midnight! They great thing is, you never get bored, at times it’s like a rock concert, there’s dancing, celebrating, massages, stranger hugs and a FIREWALK!  The Firewalk over hot coals with temperatures of 660° c, is an activity to symbolise that it’s possible to do things that seem impossible.

Tony Robbins is and has been a hero and mentor of mine for a number of years now. Tony is an expert on leadership psychology, for the past 30 years he’s worked as a business and entrepreneur strategist, peak performance coach, humanitarian and an award winning speaker. Tony has advised and worked with world leaders, royal families, celebrities, elite athletes and multinational companies. Tony has had the unique opportunity to identify patterns and model the underlying strategies generating consistent results for some of the most successful individuals in the world.

Practical Psychology

Practical Psychology is the ability to understand how our emotions work and how they are a clear reflection of how we hold our posture, the way we talk or think. We’ve never been taught how to access the skills needed to create a change in ourselves.

What stops us from moving forward?

The answer is Fear. Fear can destroy the way we think and stop us from taking the action needed in changing our life. All of us experience fear in some way in our live: fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of love or losing love, fear of being alone or the fear of the unknown. We all feel a combination of these fears throughout our life. Fear is hard-wired into every human being. We can’t remove fear but we can learn how to use it. The main 2 primary fears that all human beings share are: We’re not enough and we won’t be loved.


The Firewalk is a metaphor for overcoming fear in your life. The only way to conquer fear is to get yourself in a state of absolutely certainty, then you’re ready to conquer anything, including the Firewalk.

We accomplish the state of certainty by changing these key emotional rulers: our physiology, focus, and language.

There’s 3 elements is Practical Psychology

  1. Physiology – How we use our bodies in the way we stand i.e. standing tall with head held up high or slouched looking down at the ground. Here you can see 2 different emotions someone could be experiencing, based on their posture. Standing tall would be confident and slouched and head down would be seen as depressed or down. How quickly we move or breathe also are factors in our Physiology.
  2. Focus – Whatever we focus on, we do. Instead of focusing on something you can’t do, focus on something you can do. Focus on things you can control and things that you have, not things that you don’t have. This will make it easier for your brain to focus on the positive side of a situation instead of the negatives just by redirecting your thought patterns.
  3. Language – This a great one, words have emotions attached to them. You can change the way you feel about something by changing the meaning of it. As soon as we put words to an experience, it changes the meaning of the experience.
The words we use represent 7% of what actually influences human behaviour.
Voice qualities represent 38% of what influences another human being. So how you use your voice will affect someone more that the words you say.
Physiology represents 55%. The way you use your body represents the majority of what actually influences people when you communicate.


So with all this information in mind, be mindful of how you can use your physiology, focus and language to change your emotional state.
